FISHING NOTES.

Considering trie rough weather and that the beason ib early yet, huhermen have been uoiug wry well. The following catches are reported : Mr Fake at Eltham for the first three days of the season landed 53 nice fish, and Mr Partridge creeled 47, making exactly 100 fish for the three days. * Mr Pring, of ( Eltham, got 32 fish for the first five j days of the season. Mr Johnson, of j Okaiawa, landed 14 from Inaha on the . opening day. Mr Patterson, of Otakeho, < was out on two occasions, and landed four j good fish each day on Bradshaw Fancy : tly. i Mr Blair, Otakeho, fished Kaupokonui , one day, and landed five very good fish, i the largest being a beautiful fish of 3|lbs, caught on the Jessie. Misses Lambie and Rutherford landed 10 good ones from Taungatara, the largest being 4jlbs, the Whitebait minnow proving the most deadly. Another day the same gentleman creeled 15 from Oeo. Mr J. Robinson creeled 12 good ones from Kaupokonui on Tuesday last. One of the best baskets this season was secured by Mr J. Hastie, of Manaia. On Thursday fishing the lower part of Kaupokonui, he creeled eight splendid fish, total weight 30ilbs, the largest fish, 6lbs. These were caught with the horn whitebait minnow, and being sea run fish were quite silvery and in fine condition. On Wednesday Messrs Hastie Bros, landed II good . fish from Inaha, weight 281bs, largest fish 1 441bs, caught with worm, minnow and I Blue Dun tly. Mr Gordon on the same 1 • day creeled 8 good ones from Inaha, aver- ■ age weight 31bs, largest, 61bs. A Hawera fisherman, fishing near Eltham, creeled 8 fish, two of which were landed at the same time. The Tawhiti is affording good sport this season, baskets of 2, 3, and 4 fish being got every fine evening on the fly, tho Zulu and Sand Fly being the best killers. A number of beginners have had fair sport with the worm bait in the Tawhiti lately. , The restocking of this stream with Rainbow yearlings has had a very good effect. Mr Muggeridge landed another six good ones from Inaha in addition to those re1 corded earlier this week. Fishermen will be glad to learn that , comfortable and inexpensive accommodation can be got at Ngaire. . The fishing along the Finnerty road is of I the best. , A large number of town and country 1 lads have taken up fishing, and they prove 1 keen anglers. This will do good as the ; more fishermen there are the less chance ' there will be for the poachers.
