(Received October 7, 8.50 a.m.) LONDON, October 6. A Japanese cruiser fired upon,* stopped, examined, and afterwards released a British steamer near the Miaoto' Islands. '
The Mikado has conferred upon Colonel Hoad, Australian military attache, the Order of the Rising Sun. This is *h« lirst conferred on any attache. The Japanese discovered 80 junks organised at Kiaochau to run the Port Arthur blockade, relying upon the advantages of the Russian guns and mines to give the junks passage.
