WELLINGTON, October 6.
A deputation of Taranaki members arc companied by Messrs Willis, Remington, and Buddo, M.H.R.'s, waited on the Minister for Agriculture to-day for the purposo of discussing quarantine regulation^ imposed for the purpose of stamping 'out the disease in cattle knov(n as "blackleg." The sppaters were' Messrs Jennings. Symw, eftmth and Major. They pointed! out the possibilities of hardship being inflicted on farmers owing to these regulations. They supported: the department in its desire to cope with the disease by the fodcutation of calves, and suggested that the regulations should be modified to the extent that after a time, to be specified, the calves should be allowed, after passed by the stock inspectors, to be sold outside of the area proclaimed. Messrs Remington and Willis spoke strongly against the inclusion of the district from Patea to Wanganui in th*_ proclaimed area, and stated that "Ulack-h?g" was unknown in the ar,e% ifteqftiQned' by them, and further thai great hardship would be inflicted on the large breeders of stock.
In answer to a complaint that sufficient notice had not been given to farmers in regard to the quarantining of the district, Mr Gilruth, Chief Veterinarian, said the inspectors had been dealing with the question for the past two years. Pamphlets had been circulated amongst ffy farmers, stating what to dp ih 'regard to burying stock after the inspectors. . *'"' X a * * ">■•-."» T I M W«» »» TOPly. »«W this 'was a. ttPVbleaorae matter (o deal with.
