Sir Horace Tozer, Agent-General for Queensland, in an interview dealing with Mr Balfour's suggested conference, said the whole matter was purely one of business arrangement. The Motherland ought to put herself in a position to negotiate with the colonies, and make the utmost use of the family connection. It would be found that the colonies can retain their fiscal systems while securing all the Emipire wants in connection with trade. >
RESISTING INCREASE OF FOOD PRICES.

Mr Enoch Edwards, in his presidential address to the Miners' Federation at Bris. tol, representing 334,000 miners, said that one thing they intended to emphasise was that this great federation of miners must not for the moment be captivated by any method of preferences making the food of tho people dearer. The announcement was greeted with cheers.
COLONIES WAITING FOR THE MOTHERLAND.
LONDON, October 6. Mr Balfour proposes, if the Unionists are in power after the elections, to ask the colonies to join in a conference. The Daily Telegraph says that Canadians are entirely 'favorable to a conference, though many think the Motherland must speak first. It is pointed out that the colonies have already spoken, at the Coronation Conference.
