THE DREADED ANTHRAX.

WELLINGTON, October 4. An outbreak of anthrax has occurred on a farm in the Waikato district, where cows and pigs have died from the disease. The cattle had been grazing on land recently manured with bone-dust. The usual precautions against the spread of the disease have been ta.ken by the officers of the Veterinary Department.

MISCELLANEOUS.

HASTINGS, October 6. Mr W. S. King, of Christchurch, has been selected as judge of the band contest to be held at Hastings on Novem ber 8 and 9.

CARTERTON October 5. The Carterton Borough Council has decided to invite tenders for borough drainage works, on the septic tank principle. It is a £60,000 job.
