A SWAGMAN'S DEATH.
UNWASHED FOR SJ.X n&K& [PEKSS ASSOftIVWPH.] HAMHtfQN, S'optombcr 30. A swagger njw»d Michael Barry died in the Waikato Hospital yesterday, having been rented thither, from' the Ohaupa Hotel. The deceajwjd arrived at the hotel on Monday, and asked for some beer but as ho was. in a weak state, hardly able to walk or breathe, the hotelkeepor served him with schnapps, and lodged him in the stable, doing what was possible to relieve him. A constable who took the deceased to the hospital found him in a nltny condition, the rosult of long-con-tinued neglect. The policeman could not approach him without using a disinfectant .and considered, the man had not washed himself far six yearo. At the inquest today *. Terdtefc was returned that death was m to neglect and exposure, and that no blame was attachable io anyone. Deceased was 63 years of age, a native of Ireland, and had been in tho colony 40 years. He was a soldier in his early days. •*
