BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS.

CHRISTCHURCH, September 29. The finals of the Boxing Championships were decided to-night in the presence of one of the largest audiences ever seen at a boxing contst here. In mo'Bt of the events the contests were close, and some clever work was done, the Australian visitors being particularly prominent. The following were the results :—: — Bantam weight championship— T. Dickenson (New South Wales), Bst ljlb, tho present holder, defeated D. Brown Queensland) 7st 13^1 b, and won the championship. Feather-weight championship. — J. Dowridge (Queensland) Bst 131b, present holder, won the championship, beating A. Thompson (N£w Zealand) Bst 121b. It was soon evident that the Zealander was outclassed, Dowridge being far too clever in every w<y. Light-weight championship,. — D. Pur,bury (New South W^os) 9pt lQlb, the present holder, beat J. Bagley (Queensland) 9st 131b, and won the 'cba.mfuonship. Heavy-'.voight championship, -r— . tf. M. Griffin (New Zealand) list S^b, beat P. Kling (New South Wales) list 111b, mid won the. cha,mpion«hjp. Both men got to work quickly, Griffin hitting powerfully, and Kling replying with straight left hits which had less sting than Griffin's. Tho contest rapidly developed into a hitting match, both men receiving heavy punishment and half way through the third round Uriflin landed a heavy r.ight bander on Kling's jaw, knocking nun, put. Griffin's victory was very popular. In the semi-finala (notice competition) T. Morley, Qst, bca> B. Woodham, 9st 81b, and J. Ckrk, 9st 121b, bnat A. McConnell, Opt 131b. Tho. final went to> Morley.
