BARQUE STRIKES A REEF.
[PRESS ASSOCIATION.] .h,OKLa^L>, .September 23. There is still no sign of the Takapunn. Ill© Rarawa, which left New Plymouth last nignc, arrived at'Onehunga at nm this morning. The captain of the Raraw:. reports that he did not see the Takapuna. The Takapuna has the 'Frisco mail aboard, and the mail steamer will probably be delayed. The Ventura had a v«ry stormy passage from Sydney, and passed th-» Mararoa, bound to Sydney, makinp heavy weather in the teeth of the gale. The Talune, from Gisborne, arrived at 5 this morning, having been delayed seven hours by heavy weather, j CHRISTCHURCH, September 22. I A very severe south-west gale, with I heavy showers of rain, raged last night and this morning, doing minor damage to trees and fences. The low-lying parts of the city and surrounding country were temporarily flooded. A landslip at 1 French Farm, Akaroa, killed a resident I 1 named William Giddens, seventy years of age. * I •, AUCKLAND, September 23. ' I The barque Onyx, timber laden and ' bound for Melbourne, drifted on the Lady Catherine reef, at Kaipara Heads, during the gale. Two tugs are standing by. The Onyx' cargo is valued at about I £1500.
