LAND BOARD.

LAND SALES.

At this week's meeting, among others, the following applications for land were received :— Section 4, block 10, Opnku, J. McCarty and A. Hunger, 1104 acres cash ; sections 10 and 11, block 14, Opaku, E. P. Blake, 1770 acres, cash. The required improvements on section 4, block 10, Opaku, and sections 10 and 11, block 14, Opaku, having already been effected, provisional titles will be issued upon payment of the balances of purchase money.

THANSFEUS.

J. W. Hirst and C. A. Budge to R. B. and J. G. Douglas, section 1, block 2, Opaku. Tho application was refused, ami the selectors given six months' extension of time to reside on the land.

GENERAL.

Several mortgages were agreed to. A schedule of selectors iv arrcar with rent, who had been granted extensions of time, was laid on the table. The selectors will be reminded of the fact. The Conunisiouer reported that a man who had been sued for recovery of rent, could not bo served with tho summons. — It was decided to declare the section forfeited.

NEW LANDS. A plan and schedule of nineteen sections in blocks 5, 6, 9, 10, and 14, Mahoe, surveyed by Air G. H. Billiard, in areas from 340 to 1688 acres, comprising 12,979 acres, were laid on the table. The plan and schedules were adopted, and the land opened for sale; and the sections will be classified, for the purposes of section 2 of the Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903 as

second-class heavy bush lands. Plans and schedules of 28 sections in blocks 1 and 5, Ohura, and 3, 6, 7, 8, and 10, Waro, surveyed by Messes Skect and Laing, in areas from 174 to 1710 acres, and comprising 16,7917 acres, were laid on the table. The similar resolution to the foregoing was passed.

MISCELLANEOUS.

G. McLean wrote that ho would not take up a lease of section 639, Patoa, as there were no indications of metal on the land. The Board did not alter its previous decision. A plan of thn deviation of the Ahoroa road through sections 1, block 8, and 10, block 12, Opaku, was tabled, mid subject was postponed pending decision re application of the selectors, Messrs Heslop and Son, to surrender their license on this accoUqt.

BACK BLOCK SETTLERS.

Mr T. Hastio waited on the Board with two other settlers from the Puniwhakatt and asked that a remission of rent bo granted for one year, as there is no power to grant four years' remission as previously asked for. The settlers were informed that as the matter would shortly be brought under the notice of Parliament, with a view to legislation, it would be better not to take any action in the meantime.

Mrs J. R. Dougherty's application for a reduction in the value of buildings on section 25, Clandon Settlement, was again considered, and it was decided a revaluation of the buildings be made and submitted for the Board's consideration.

The Board decided that sections 81 and 82, block 9, Opunake, be disposed of to the Crown Dairy Company, in tho torms of the ranger's report.

THIRDS. The following proposals fpr expenditure of thirds were agreed to ojl usual;' terms : -Stratford. (H. gwa.n, deceased) a surrender of section 3, block 12, Opaku, and a vacation to be made of improvements with a view of re-offering only 140} .acres of the section weighted with improvements.

E. T. Hartncll was granted six months' , extension to reside on section 7, block 2, Mahoe. Consideration of dealing with unallotted sections in Spotswood Settlement was deferred till next meeting, Applications {or remission of rent were made iv several cases. Consideration was postponed pending result of proposed legislation on toe subject. A RENT QUESTION.
