There was , large attendance at the official opemi of the commemoration gates, the ceremor ' being performed by the Mayor, and tl 1 ' football in connection with the carmv \ was in progress a,t the time of going j - ' press. A report of tho proceedings wi I"■ '• appear to-iaorrow. *♦ ' A special telegram to the Wangani 1 , Chronicle says : The case of Seddon y. Ta; " lor, - which was set down for hearing 1 Christchurch next Monday, will not corr tin tfll some time in November, as W Taylor, M.H.R., has taken advantage < the Privileges Act of 1866, under whic certificates of exemption are granted b the Speaker to members who ask him froi attendance in Courts as parties or wil nesses in civil cases. Mr Speaker gay the certificate this afternoon, and the cert: flcate binds the Court to refrain from th cas.e during the session. Without making any particular fuss th Flour Trust is -increasing the price of flou by substantial increments, says the Wei lington Post.^ When the "hitch" oc curred at the end of May, it'wjll be remeni bend, the Trust reduced the price of flou to- £7 5s per ton f.o.b. in order, it wa ■ stated) to force into the .combination cer tain mills which had refused allowance .Since then the recalcitrant mills have conn v in, and about three weeks ago the associ ation raised the price td £8 f.o.b. With . out apparent reason the price has been stil . further augmented, and last' wee's the loca agents of the Trust circularised bakers stating that the price of ', association flow was now £8 10s per ton -f.o.b. This re ' presents a rise of 26s per ton inside th< past month or so. On Friday a meeting \s to be held al Manaia for the purpose, of forming c Graziers' Association. The idea has ween worked up by Mr S. B. Corrigan, who ha: been appointed Secretary pro tern. The provisional directors are Messrs Luscombc (Chairman), R. W. Foreman, McKeown, W. Robertson, A. Hunter. The articles of association .have bpen drawn up by the directors, who will also submit a report of what is intended to be the scope of th* Association. The object of the Association, .briefly, is to arrange cooperation among the farmers for the purpose of consigning fat stock, both sheep and cattle, to the London; market. From a financial point of viewy no trouble is expected. Stock when- on a condition \ to be sent Home will be, taken over by the Association, who will draw on the buyer up to a stated amount.- Should the market be good and much bigger prices be obtained, the exjra amount will be pooled, but supposing a loss is sustained Hne pool will stand this, a division of which will be made at the end of the financial year. Each participator in tiro scheme, will be required to guarantee 74 per' cent, of tho total stock sent Home, in case the rl does not cover losses. It. will thus seen tnat if one. man's consignment fail, owing 1 to the many conditions which regulate, the market, he will not have jto, stand the f till loss. With the large, supplies the company will be handling it is imagined that it will be able ttf?#tnj»nd from shipping, freezing; and other concerns those concessions which have hitherto only been granted to largs firms. Th« company will also be in a position to obtain a very correct opinion of the state of the London market, and will thus have the advantage of knowing the moßt satisfactory periods at which to ship. Sundries in the shape of hides, etc., will be d«alt with. At present a farmer shipping on his own account has a few hides .and these he has to hawk round. The Association will have the, advantage of having several hundreds to deal with, and besides suffering no trouble in obtaining a market will, it is expected, obtain a batter figorj than independent farmers. The provisional directors will recommend that 1 per cent, be allowed for working expenses, but this, as indeed all other questions relating to the scheme, will be discussed at the meeting on Friday, when it is intended to form the Association. An important tree sale is to be held at the Mart, Regent street, on Saturday, on behalf of Messrs J. Laird and Sons, Wanganui. The consignment includes hardy hedge and shelter plants, daphnes, roses^ baronias, etc. A good assortment of fruit trees will be offered, including plumß, apples, pears, and small fruits. Mr T. H. Gillman announces that he has commenced practice in Hawera as an - architect, and invites consultation by those about to build. - •• For Children's Hacking Cough at Night, Woods* Great Peppermint Cure.
