WELLINGTON/ January 6. A sh'pment of ductcs, lapwing pheasants and widgeon arrived for ths Government by tho Corinthic in good condition. CHRJSTCHUBCH, January 6. The executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union i?.-et to-day. A letter was received from Ihe head office covering the potition, in favour of granting the freehold to Crown tenants and request- | ing tlw exe^tive to distribute the same among the branches in the provinces. Tha executive considered it inadvisable to adopt the course, and referred the petition back to the head office.
DUNEDIN, January 6. A» a meeting of delegates to fix the day of the half-hdiiday, it was decided to observe it on Wednesday as - at present. Nearly all the speakers i-xjuessea themselves in favour of Saturday,, but, thought t should be fixed by the Legislature, and not left to . the conference to take the initiative. An amendment in favour of Saturday was rejected, the delegates from Port Chalmers, West Harbour, South Dunedin and Caversbair. only supporting it.
