•(FROM OCR EKSIDBNT AOBNT.) A ball in aid of the funds of the Eltbam Fire Brigade was held in the AlhenaßumHall last evening, and was largely attended; The J function proved to be a riiost enjoyable one, . the manic (supplied by Messrs. Brunette and White) being excellent, while a sumptuous sapper was provided. The Mies' committee are to be congratulated- on the success of their efforts. ' t The old wooden culvert near the railway station, which was washed away during the recent heavy rains, has been replaced by one of concrete, which shoald oarry off all storm water in the future. The work was rather an extensive on<?, the wash-out causing a large gap in the line, and "during the repairs all trains had t> slow down to five miles an hoar while crossing. An, effort is being made to form a library in connection with the local, sohool, and many donations of books have already been received.
