The Secretary of the' New Zealand Cricket Council has received a letter from Lord Hawke, expressing his regret that he was unable to accompany the team. At the time of writing (November 25 ih) his mother wa* no better, and there was -no chance of his getting away in December. He expressed a hope that npgotiations with Australia would be successful, as his team was very keen to play at j Sydney and Melbourne. The Cricket Council will try and arrange a match South Island v. Lord . Hawke's team, instead of the • South I Otago match at Balolutha on February 18th and 19>h.
