Tho Canterbury College Board of Governors again considered tho system of giving religious instruction out of school hours in tho Boys High School, and decided to grant the headmaster permission to carry on tho present classes subject to certain regulations. . Tho City Council at its last meeting was deluged with petitions and deputations on tho question of the weekly half-holiday, somo urging Saturday and othors Thursday. The Council docidod not to give its delegates to tho Conferonco on this matter any instructions. WELLINGTON, December 15. Decrees nisi were granted in the Divorce Court, Wellingt(o{n, wi Mdnday, on tho petitions of the wives in the cases:— Ada Wynward v. C. "Wynward, Mary Martin v. J. C. Martin, Eliza Crofts y. Crofts, and on the husband's petition in A. E. Mildenhall v. Mildonhall. DUNEDIN, December 15. During tho week ended to-day, returns navo been received from 64 dredges, tho total gold yield being 1437 oz 14 dwt 10 gr or on average of 220z por dredge. At a meeting of tho Wairoa Gold Dredging Company it was decided to go into liquidation voluntarily. It was stated that satisfactory arrangements had been made with the vendors, and there was no reason why a first dividend of 4s on shares paid up to 15b should not bo received shortly. MASTERTON, Decomber 16. A movement is on foot to adopt tho Saturday half-holiday. It is hoped other towns in tho Wairarapa will follow suit if Mastorton does. Dr. Valintino has submitted a report to tho Council condemning tho systoin of removal of refuse und commenting on tho number of luiclroined houses and cesspits oC which 150 aro in the borough. H is estimated that it would cost £2000 to extend the drainage system. Tho Council will tako tho wholo matter into consideration at an early date.
