EDUCATION BOARD.

#~ The usual monthly meeting of the Education Board was held last evening. Present : Messrs Bridge (chairman), Lothforidgo, Pirani, Baker, Adams, Spurdle, Dixon, and Eev. J. Ross. Sewing Instruction.— That a notice lie sent to schools where the attendance is less than 40, and there is no female teacher, that if a suitable instructress can be recommended, the Board will appoint a teacher of sewing in such schools and pay at the rate of 10s per annum on the average attendance at the sewing class, on condition that the requirements of "j the Government regulations are complied with. Eltham. — It was resolved that application be made to the Government ; for necessary funds to make an addition to the Eltham school for District High School purposes. Hawera Technical School.— J. E. Richardson temporarily appointed teacher. Re-appointment.— Miss M. Hunger to be re-appointed when suitable vacancy occurs. Manaia. — Leavo of absence granted to Miss Ivy Proudfoot. Okaiawa.— Re account for water. The Chairman moved that the Committee is expected to pay for water for children, and teacher to pay for water used by him. Mr Dixon moved as an amendment that the Board pay the account. — Motion carried. Hawera.— Ro establishment of cookery classes.— Mr Dixon to be proviqted with all information, and lettor to bo held over till next meeting. It was resolved that Miss 0. Muir's application for appointment as teacher of cookery bo held over till next meeting. School Reserves.— -Tho Chairman gavo notice that he would move at next meeting that all rents from/ school reserves bo in future paid to School Committees. Scholarships.— Tho matter of granting scholarships was, after some discussion, left in the hands 06 the chairman.
