Mr Ell informs tha Wellington eorres1 pondent of the Christohareh Press that the i drainage rates for St. Albans have been , illegally levied on the capital value. He < has had an interview with Mr Martin, city solicitor, who is an authority on municipal : law, and it is Mr Martin's opinion that the rate should have been levied on the unimproved value. He relies for this reading on section 74 of the Bating Aot of 1894. We are glad to hear that Trooper Robertson's condition is to-day reported as improving. At the District Court, New Plymouth, Mr Kerr, for the D.0.A., asked for the direction of the Court in regard to the case of Arend Seekamp's estate, under section 67 of the Bankruptcy Act. His Honor : The D.O.A. wants information as to -new oreditors being admitted. Mr Kerr : The D.O.A. finds himself in a quandary, and notice has been given lo oreditors likely to be affeoted by the applications. Mr Weston appeared on behalf of certain creditors, and submitted they should receive dividends available out of the estate. His Honor said he would take the proof ol debt in these cases as having been admitted, and intimated that he would look into the matter.
