TARANAKI BEATS WELLINGTON.

The Wellington an.l Taranaki rep. terms met at New Plymouth on Thursday, in the presence of a large gathering of the public, and, after a very exciting and even game, tbe amber and bl&oks proved victorious by 6 points to 3. The credit for the viotory must go to tho Taranaki forwards, whose work was excellent, their rushes being irresistible. Wellington was the first to press, but Taranaki relieved, and in turn went on the attack. Then after some give-and-take play Taranaki forwards got on a great rush, which ended in Glasgow scoring, amid much excitement. The kick at goal was a failure, ' Taranaki . . „ . . 3 Wellington 0 After some uninteresting play, Taranaki once more assumed the aggres3ive, but Wellington Averted the danger, and followed up their escape from prebsure by attacking, Mclntyre being crowded into touoh-in-goal when a score seemed imminent. Taranaki forwards again came with a rattle, and shortly afterwards Glasgow securing a mark in a good place, O'Dowda almost secured the coveted points. In tbe second half, however, O'Dowda, by a fine penalty kick, increased Taranaki's tota?. Taranaki 6 Wellington 0 Wellington woke op, and a forward rush took place to Taranaki line, where Wallace (the Wellington oaptain) made a big bid to get in. Then followed some uninteresting play, following which Wellington again got dangerous, and, as a fitting termination to a good passing rush, Slattery got over. Spencer did not add the major points. Taranaki 6 Wellington 3 To tho conclusion of the game play was fairly even, each side in turn attacking. Mr F. H. Titleyi of Wauganui, was referee.
