NEW ZEALAND FARMERS' UNION.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the • Taranaki Executive was held on Saturday, at Hawera. Present : The President, and Messrs Parlane, Astbury, Macrae, and Inkster.
The President reported on the conference of delegates on the fire insurance question. The Underwriters' Association had agreed to meet a deputation of three members of the Union, and Messrs Wilson (Wellington), Recce (Canterbury), and himself had been appointed. The deputation laid the question of reduction of rates before the Association, who promised to consider the question, and give their reply in a few days. As soon as the reply was sent it would be made known to the Union.
The conference had also interviewed Mr McGowan, the head of tho Valuation Department, on the question of Land Valuation. They had not obtained a great deal of satisfaction, but it was probable that an amended Act would be brought in next session, providing for the appointment of two valuers, one by the local bodies and the other by tbe Government.
A number of replies were read from branches, on the questions of Immigration and Single Tax.
A circular from the Department of Agriculture, together with a copy of the Land and Stock Auction Bill, was read, and it was decided to apply to the Department for copies of the bill, with a view of submitting the question to the branches for their opinion.
Resolved, That the Secretary send out a circular to the branches re Provincial Conference.
Resolved, That this Executive approve of the Premier's action in bringing under the notice of the Colonial Office the capabilities of New Zealand as a source of supply of frozen meat and other produce. (Parlane — Inkster.)
Kesolved, That the Secretary forward a copy of this resolution to the Premier.
The Organising Secretary's report was read and approved.
Accounts amounting to £5 9s 2d were passed, and it was resolved that the executive of the delegates to the Pire Insurance Conference be paid. The meeting then adjourned.
