AUCKLAND PRODUCE REPORT.
Auckland, February 5.
Oats are very scarce just now, as the arrivals have of late been so small on account of the small quantities offering in the South. A few of the new crop arrived by the Zealandia, and have been readily sold at a little under the price of old grain. Onions remained very firm until the departure of the Sonoma, which took five hundred odd cases, and the market has now declined. Value may be given at about 7s to 7s 6d ex-store, but growers cannot expect to get more than 5s 6d shortly, as Southern competition will weaken Ih6 market. Their main crop is not yet ready. Merchants are laying in stocks of grass seed and clovers for tbe coming season. Most lines show an advance on last year's rates, owing partly to the drought in Canterbury aud also in Australia. Heavy orders are in for canned meats, and a difficulty is experienced in executing the same. Hams and bacon are in better supply.
