PREGNANT WAR POINTS.

THE PROFIT SIDE OF THE BILL.

In the Pall Mall Gpzette J. Emerson Neilly makes an emphatic summary of Britain's assets from the war : —

In their anxiety to condemn the war policy of the Government, a section of the public are so busy in picking items out of what they consider the loss account that they have no time to realise that there is a profit Bide also. Among many others, the following points are worthy of consideration :—: —

(1) We have learned valuable lessons in the potentialities of modem fire.

(2) Our Army has been shot over, and each man of it should be worth four who have not been oa the wrong side of rifles spitting bullets.

(3) A. public interest in our national defences has been created.

(4) The Army is undergoing a reformation that would have been unheard of but for the war.

(5) Obsolete methods are to be abolished, and the army is to be trained on more rational lines.

(6) We have shown the world what we can do unassisted in transporting troops, and can challenge combined Europe to equal our feat. (7) The same world has seen that the civilian Englishman can be a soldier too.

(8) South Africa will be free from Table Bay to Tanganyika, and there will be equal rights.

(9) The assets in the conquered territory will pay our war expenses. (10) The vast gold area of the Rand deliberately hsld undeveloped by Mr Kruger would indemnify us times over.

(11) As a consequence of the war, an auxiliary army of citizens is in course of formation, and will alter the modern ideas for invasion. "NONE SO BLIND A 8 THOSE

WHO WILL NOT SEE."

These are but eleven points out of a list that might be extended into columns of print. They are not the exclusive proper 1 7 of one intellect, but are in the mind of every man of intelligence who has honestly studied the position and the possibilities cf the future.
