Wellington, January 15. A lad named Harry Collins, engaged as a moulders' apprentice in the Government Railway Workshops at Petone, was drowned in the Hutt river yesterday. He was leading in a swimming match, when suddenly he collapsed, and calling out " am done," went under. His companion reached the shore exhausted. The body is not recovered;
Palme rston North, January 15. A young man named Thomas Mayo, son of Mr Joseph Mayo, late Government pomologist, was drowned while bathing in the Manawatu river last evening. Three other youths were balliing with him and made an ineffectual attempt at rescue. The body was recovered by the police early this morning.

The lad drowned in the Hult River was Bruce Munro (not Collins), aged 17, whose parents reside at Blenheim.
