LATE CABLE NEWS

Per Prbss Association. — By Elbctrio Tklkgkaph, — Copyright. FEDERAL POLITICS. Beceived January 14, 9.22 a.m. Sydnky, January 14. Sir William McMillan, reviewing the Right Hon. E. Barton's Mainland speech, Boathingly denounced the Federal Ministry and their policy, and accused Mr Barton of flagrantly violating his pledge. The tariff was not intended for the good of the country, but to catch votes. He declared that the New South Wales members of the Cabinet were not representative, being dominated by tho Victorians. - Received January 14, 9 84 a.m. Sydney, January 14. Mr McMillan compared Mr Barton's hesitating action in sending a Federal Contingent with New Zealand's ready response. The Commonwealth should have offered five thousand men, but, instead of acting nobly, the Government trailed our newly-born flag in the dust. He claimed the Pacific Islands ought to be under Federal control, but such control was no good if the Commonwealth had no trade in the Islands. Now was the time to stretch a friendly hand to these people, but instead of that an attempt was made through the tariff practically to wipe out tbe trade.
