KAPONGA.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRBSPONDBNf.I

The meeting in connection with Eiflo Club matters held on the 19th inst. was well attended. After enrolment of about 20 members, and fixing upon site for range, which is in Stratford county, near the Bowan Boad, the following officers were appointed; — Captain, Mr H. S. Wilkie; Management Commi'tee, Messrs F. "YV. Wilkie, J. Mackie, D. McMillan, the Captain, and the Secretary. As none of those present or Mr Gapper, who had been acting as Secretary, would accept the position of Secretary and Treasurer to the Club, it was decided to ask Mr Holdaway to accept the position. The committee were instructed to proceed with the clearing of range and erection of targets, etc.

The Band Sports Committee are working hard to moke* their Sports, which are fixed for Boxing Day, a success. An attractive programme has been prepared, tho primes for whioh in many cases are valuable. The Milkman's Race will, besides being a novelty, be one of the events of the day, as I hear many of tho veterans of Baboook test are in full training for this event.

Kaponga is slowly though steadily improving. Tho Kaponga Go-op. Dairy has erected substantial additions to the cottage purchased from Mr Harwood, at the intake for the waterworks, which is now in the course of construction. The cottage is in occupation by the company's secretary, Mr J. B. Bennie. In addition to the above cottage, Mr J. Robertson is busy with extensive additions to tho factory buildings, a full account of which I will give when more progress is made, Mr F. W. Wilkie has just completed thp building of a fine, largo, handsome house, consisting of eleven rooms, in the form of a T, with a large bay window (square), and wide verandah running round the front and northern side of tho house. The interior of the building is perfect in every detail, and reflects the greatest credit upon tbe builder, Mr J. Robertson, of Kaponga, and the painting and paperhanging by Mr A. Franklyn, of Manaia.

Mr J. McClure has moved his blacksmith and wheelwright shop from the corner of the Manaia and Eltham roads to the seqti'on on tbe Eltham road adjoining (he Popt Office section, the building being 40 x 86, with a dividing wail, pne portion being for smithy and horseshoeing and the other for wheelwright and carriage building. The question is often asked when will the* Postal Department utilise the section belonging to tbe Department by erecting a Post and Telegraph Office puitable to the wants of our growing township, the present office being inadequate and behind the times. This question, no doubt, will receive full consideration at the Settlers' Association meeting, which is to be held at an early date, and to which all townsmen and settlers are cordially invited.
