A HOT TIME. FIRE IN COAL BUNKERS OF A STEAMER.

The British-India steamer Jumna has arrived from Queensland porfs after an alarming fire, which was discovered in the bunkers qn the 9th. The vessel put in to Algiers, removed three hundred tons of coal, and sßiled again. j On the Monday following the fire reappeared in the main hold, and raged for ten hours. It spread seriously, the engine-room becoming almost untenable. The boats were provisioned ready for lowering. The crew and passengers, under the leadership of the chief and third officers and the purser, jettisoned many tons of cargo. . • With great difficulty they finally subdued the fire. A steamer which came in sight remained alongside the Jumna all night. The cargo suffered by the water poured in. After calling at Plymouth on Tuesday thfe Jumna proceeded to London.
