MAORI DISTRICTS.
-♦ (PER PBBSS ASSOCIATION.) Wblunoion. October 25. Most of the new districts under the Maori Acts have now been allocated. What is known as the Northern Maori District has, under the Maori Councils Act, been divided into six districts, following, roughly, the present county boundaries. The Eastern Maori District, from Tauranga to Wairarapa, has been split into seven, and the Western District so far has been apportioned into five, but the King Country and Waikato boundaries have not yet been definitely settled. The basis of population is approximately about two thousand for each district. Under the Maori Lands Administration Act, the East Coast, from Cape Runaway down to Cape Palliser, has been divided into two districts; the West Coast, from Wellington to Upper Wanganni, has been made one district. The district north of Wanganui to Onehungahasnot been settled up to the present. The Northern Maori electorate, however, has been made one district, and it is con. sidered probable the Hot Lakes distriot, including Urewera, will form a separate district. The boundaries under both Acts will be gazetted shortly.
