A SCENE.
The Patea Press reports a scene at the Harbour Board meeting when a resolution re the Western PaokiDg Company's lease came up for discussion. The ohairman said he thought the resolution was carried subject to the board's Boliofor'B opinion. Mr MoKenna said there was nothing about the solicitor in the resolution. It seemed to him that they could not move because the chairman was dead against it. The ohairman said they had had enough of Mr McKenna'a unfounded charges. If Mr MoKenna had any charges to make he should make them in an orderly manner, but he had no right to throw Blurs on members. Mr McKenna said it was only the ohairman he was aiming at. The ohairman: I really must ask the protection of the board. If Mr MoKenna is going to make insulting .oharges it is impossible for me to keep order. An affront to the ohair is an insult to the board. I have been put into thiß position by the unanimous wish of the board, and I shall immediately leave the chair unless erder is kept. Mr MoKenna : You are not there by the wish of the ratepayers, but by a side wind. If
The chairman : Will you be good enough to hold your tongue. Mr McKenna : You are in a paßSion. The chairman said •he hoped the members would not allow him to be inBulted.
After some further angry words,
Mr MoKenna said : I will move a resolution of this kind, That the chairman and secretary of this board — The chairman : The resolution is out of order.
Mr McKenna (sarcastically) : lam now ruled oat of order. The chairman*: Bft down, please. Mr MoKenna : I have a perfect right to speak. The chairman: Will you be kind enough to hold your tongue, or else I will call on the Benior member to move in the matter. If I have to send for the police, I will keep order in this room.
Under the auspices of the British Workman's Lodge, an entertainment will be given in the Oddfellows' Hall on Thursday. Bee advt.
The vote for the traffic branch of the Wellington-Napier-New Plymouth railways on the Supplementary Estimates contains the following items:— Mrs E. Goodwin, compassionate allowance, £50; Mrs L. Evans, compassionate allowance, £40 ; S. W. Hioks, temporary assistance, £75 ; and Mrs M. A. Connor, oompasßionate allowance, £50.
The Adelphi Dramatio Company will play on Saturday, in the Opera House, when " The Vagabond King " will be produced.
