MANAIA.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) The second meeting of the above was held in the Oddfellows' Hall on Friday ! night, Mr Jno. Hunt in the chair. The rules of the Palmerston North and Stratford Chambers were read. After discussion, it was resolved, That the rules of the Stratford Chamber be adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows — President, Mr Hunt; vicepresident, Mr R. W. Sinclair ; committee, Messrs Bennett, Gilmour, Lim- j brick, Clarke and Stewart; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. D. Nicholas. It was resolved that a copy of the following resolution be forwarded to the Postmaster- General: — That, seeing the increased amount of business entailed on the local post office officials re telephone bureau, it is urgently necessary that assistance be granted to the postal department." The Chairman requested those present to bo on the alert in giving attention to any matters that may be calculated to be in the interests and for the welfare of the town. Great interest is being manifested in the institution, and it will no doubt later on assume great proportions. Quite an amusing sketch was witnessed at the Domain swimming dam a few nights ago. A young man wag tossing some boys into the dam, the boys springing somersaults and diving. One of the lads, when being tossed, gripped the young man and hauled him into the deepest part of the dam, from whence he emerged in a pretty plight, to the amusement of all present, and ) adjourned to change his clothes.
