RACING CONFERENCES.

At the Racing Conference Mr King moved that rule 7 be altered to read, 11 That at any race meeting where the totalisation is used no race shall be run for less than JESO." The chairman thouß&t nothing would tend to put racing on a better footing than the motion, but he was afraid the sum named was too high.
The motion was lost. A motion by the Canterbury Jockey Club, •• That "the Trotting Association of New Zealand be nec'Rui»««« a club for the purpose of rule 15," wub carried. The Eaoing Conference adapted a new rule to the effect ihat no juokey shall bet on y>y horse in any race m which he is engaged except his own mount, and then it must only be through and with the peruiisbioa x>t his 6D Ho^ e j. Carroll addressed il»e Conference on the question'of toialwator permits, strongly urging the amalgnmation of some of the country clubs and the limiting of their racing to one day. He said that at Borne of the smaller meetings the stakes were so small that there was no incentive to offer to run straight.
