Auckland, December 7. Mr J. Wbiteley King, formerly connected with the New Zealand press, and now seoretary to the Pastoraliste' Union of New South Wales, is at present in Auckland. He comes to the colony to tbe opening of the Whiteley Memorial Church at New Plymouth, being a grandson of the murdered mwsionary in the massacre at the White Clifis. He leaves for New Plymouth to-tuorrow.

A number of women convicted of sly grog-selling in the city were fined £6 each, and the liquor found on the premises confiscated.

Wbllinoton, December 7: The Secretary to the Post Office has informed the Chamber of Commerce that it is the intention of the Government (subject to Parliamentary approval) to join with the other colonies hi guaranteeing four-ninths of the total cost of the construction and maintenance of the Pacific cable, New Zealand's guarantee in any case not to exceed one-eighth of the whole cost.
