(PBB PBBSS ASSOCIATION.) Christohurch, September 2. The Sawyers' Arms Hotel, Papanui, owned and "occupied by Mr Cooper, was destroyed by fire. The building was insured for £1000, and furniture for £800 in the Oommercial Union. Nothing was saved. Auckland, September 1. Mrs Woods, relict of the late Mr Beader Gilson Wood/ (an ex-Colonial Treasurer); a very old colonist, passed •way at her residence, " Claybrook," Parnell, aged eighty. The deceased lady was in good health on Saturday but took a slight attack of influenza. Mr P. W. Hanson has submitted to the Devonport Borough Council proposals for electric tramways through the district to Lake Takapuna ; also to light the township with eleotrioity. He wants a eftneession for fifty years. Wellington, September 2. Ninety-eight applications were , received from all parts of the world for the position of Wellington City Engineer at a salary of £800.
