' The Standard's St Petersburg correspondent states, that Russia has given completely satisfactory assurances with respect to the British sphere in China. It is rumoured that the British Admiral was direoted to seize all Chinese vessels and Customs houses unless the Tsung-li-Yamen complied with the British demands. It is announced that Count Koupetsky, Buesian Minister at Constantinople, succeeds M. Pavaloff at Pekin. Received September 2, 9.12 a.m. Shanghai, September 1. The Viceroy of the ' Chinese province of Liang Kwang, which includes the southern provinces of Kwangsi and Kwangtung, has resigned as a protest against the surrender to France of Port Kwanjr Ghanwan. The Kwangsi rebels have twice badly dofeated the Chinese imperial troops.
