School Committee.
The usual monthly meeting was held on Thursday evening. Present— Messrs Bobbins (chair), Dive, Day, Sargent, Hicks, Tait, A. H. Parkinson and Btevens (secretary.) The stationery account of £Q 14s 6d was passed for payment. In this connection a resolution was passed that the expenditure for this purpose is excessive and that the headmaster be direoted to assist the committee to bring it within reasonable limit. Mr F. McGuire, M.H.R., wrote inclosing correspondence re site in police paddock for proposed technical school. The secretary has now to make the necessary application to the Lands Department. The Secretary reported that 60 yards of covered drain was connected directly to the tanks through the overflow pipe and to the building through the lavatories untrapped, a condition highly dangerous to the scholars. — Resolved that the inspector report on the matter on his next*visit. The Board reported that erection of a new room was now under discussion. — ' It was resolved that in view of the increased attendance and the approach* ing summer the board be urged to complete the addition before school resumes after Christmas. It was resolved to draw the Truant Inspector's attention to the number of absentee children of school age. The listfhowed that 13 have made less than the minimum attendance. Mr Dive was empowered to procure a load of metal for doorway of school. The secretary was instructed to ascertain what was "being taught in praotioal chemistry and the condition of the appliances for this purpose. The matter of improving the appearance of the school grounds was discussed, but no action was taken. ' It was decided to ask the Library I Committee to allow the School Com* mittee to meet in the Library. . '
