Egmont Sash and Door Factory.

Among the clhief industries of Taranaki, the saw-naill and sash and door factory is included in the most important, and we believe the above is one of the most successful. Since Mr Syme has had the Egmont Sash and Door Factory (some 10 years), Hawera district has considerably advanced and settlement increased, and this, with the advancement of the dairy industry, has necessitated additions to the factory from time to time and the introduction of "large amount of machinery to cops with the demand for builders' material and factory requisites. There is now 6000 feet of floor space, and with sheds and timber stacks cover two acres of ground. The amount of work being put through of late, however, has so taxed the floor space, that Mr Syme has decided on building another wing to the building, which it is intended to give an addition of 2000 feet of floor room, and allow of some new machines being introduced. In conjunction with the sash and door factory Mr Syme has a sawmill at Midhjrst, which enables him to supply timber in almost any size, without the possibility of disappointment or delay.

In addition to the manufacture of doors, sashes and window frames the firm have under way six large factory box churns — two of 8001bs capacity for the Stratford Factory, 6ft by 3ft 6in, full side opening, with rubber packing, fitted with eccentric fastenings. In the lid of the churn a small trap door is made to allow of the butter being washed and sprayed, doing away with the removal of the lid except when cream is being put in or butter taken out. The churns are made of the best totara, and aro substantially put together. There were also a 6001b for Ngaire, one 6001b for Mr T. L. Joll, and one 6001b capacity for Midhirst, all built on the same principle and oi the same material as those for Stratford. Butter boxes, and in fact all materials in the wood line required for the dairy industry, are being manufactured in large quantities. Cooperage of ftfcnost every description is executed.

For glazing Mr Syme has a very latrge stock of glasses of all patterns, and a large assortment of windows of nil sizes being stocked ready for use. iV. very large quantity of builders' timber of all classes and kinds is kept liq the yard, and Mr Syme is always in a position to supply orders for buildings from his stock.
