The Star ]Published Daily.] SECOND EDITION. SATURDAY, JANUARY 22, 1898. WATER AND DRAINAGE.

.» With regret we see that at Thursday night's meeting of the Borough Council the Mayor proposed the employment of still another engineer in connection with the water and drainage. There wai general satisfaction with Mr Marchant's practical common sense, business-like action when he was here, and no good reason, in fact no reason at all has beon given for seeking other advice. We have no personal feeling or interest in favor of one engineer more than another, but, not to suggest the application of the old proverb about too many cooks spoiling th* broth, it seems to us that chopping and changing about from one adviser to another is not a course likely to beget either confidcuce or the best of service. Why another report is wanted has not been explained, and there docs not appear any reason why if further information is required it should not be obtained in ampliation by their several authors of the schemes now in the possession of the Council. It may be also pointed out that time is passing rapidly, and that from appearances it is to be feared there will be no poll taken on the question until the summer has gone and autumn t-bowers have washed away the enthusiasm drawn out by the necessities of summer.
