News from the East states that 800 Chinese pirates attacked the suburbs of Kaiphong, inhabited by Europeans. They fired four quarters of the city simultaneously. Two Frenchmen were killed. A body of marines from a French worship drove the pirates off, killing 85. By a fire in Hong Kong eight women, four girls, and three men were suffocated. Indian Frontier Trouble. Fatal Quarrel. ♦ (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Timabu, January 21. An inquest has been held at Peel Forest concerning the death of a boy named Peter "Finlayson, aged 11. The evidence showed that he and his brother Robert, aged 13, quarrelled as to who should fetch in cows. The mother' turned Robert out of the house, but he returned witb a piece of iron which he was swinging about, and it accidentally, or purposely, left his hand and hit Peter on the head, penetrating his skull and killing him instantly. Robert said the iron slipped, and he only meant to frighten Peter. The jury found a verdict of manslaughter, and the boy has been arrested.
