A Peculiar Case.

«. fl'BR fRKSH ASSOCIATION. I Invercargill January 19. In the District Court to-day, Emily Hobbs sued her husband, Justus Hobos v railway ganger, for tho return of furniture, horses, cattle and implements, or thoir value, JE2OS. The case is a peculiar one, seeing that the woman is now waiting her trial on charges of burning her own house and sheep stealing, the principal witnossos in which will be her husband and stepchildren. Business men, who had had dealings with the parties, deposed that tho receipts and bills, &c, were in plaintiffs name. The women brought her husband money at her marriage. His Honor Judge Ward held that the balance of evidence was in favour of the plaintiff, the fact that the defendant admitted he had altered the receipts from her name to liis being greatly against him. The articles bought with defendant's money wore struck out, and judgment was given for £162, with costs JGI6 odd. |
