MATAPU.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Our school breaks up on Thursday, 17th inst. On Friday,- the school children, in conjunction with the children of the Okaiawa school, hold a picnic in the Domain at Te Ngutu o te Manu. The outing will prove instructive as well as pleasant. I notice by the papers that one of the senior pupils of Ma apu School— George Maunder— qualified fifth on the list for senior scholarships. This is very creditable to him, seeing that there were 36 candidates, and of the ten who qualified he was the only one who did not belong to the large town schools or to the colleges, where students possess exceptional advantages. Things were rather exciting in our community during the election campaign. Did the result of the local option poll, or of Mr Bobbin's candidature depend on Matapu there would have been little doubt as to the result. The creamery is now in full swing, and the manager informs me that heis now receiving close on 200 gals of milk per day. Since sending my last notes a marriage has taken place here. Mr H. Buchanan, of Skeet Road, was united in the bonds of holy matrimony to Miss

Edith Goodland, daughter of Mr Goodland, of Normanby. I am sure everyone will join with me in felicitating the couple in their newly wedded life. I heav that Mr Buchanan's example is likely to be followed by others of our budding youths.
