LONDON, February 12. Despatches show that President Kruger appealed to Germany and France to intervene immediately Dr Jameson started.
Transvaal has ordered two additional batteries of heavy guns from France and Germany.
Mr Cecil Rhodes refuted the Cape Argus' statement that the German policy in the Transvaal was a greater menace than one hundred Jameson raids.
The trial in connection with Jameson's invasion of the Transvaal has been adjourned indefinitely. The evidence is regarded weak. Jameson before the engagement wrote to De Wet, British Agent, Pretoria, that he was unable to retire until he obtained food from the Rand. He molested no one and was anxious to aid Britishers in extremity and then retire.
February 13. A German White Book has been published containing a despatch by Baron Marschall yon Bilberstem, Minister for Foreign Affairs, to Count Halzfeldt, Ambassador in London, urging that the interests of Germany required that the autonomy of the Transvaal should be maintained in terms of the treaty of 1884, also the statu quo ante with regard to Delagoa Bay. It further poiii!.;.il out that Uio commercial union of tho AMcan St-itos would be injurious to Germany. As early as December. 24 Krngur was xalsing prccaui/ions agtvinst a raid. Tho Gorman Consul at Pretoria was authorised on December 31 to summon fifty marines from a warship to protect the consulate.
