(Wellington Post.) We have to acknowledge receipt of the 1896 number of tiiat excellent compendium of information respecting the Manawatu and Taranaki distriots, the Haweba Star Almanack and West Coast Directory, which has developed into a substantial book of 410 pages. The compilers, Innes and Co., in their preface, remark that hi preparing this thirteenth edition they have had to contend against the effects of a fire, which destroyed their plant and the earlierprinted sheets, but have yet managed to get i out before the New Year. (Waimate Witness.) We have to acknowledge receipt of the Star Almanack for 1896. In spite of the severe loss sustained by the publishers owing to the late fire, the Almanack appears in even better form and excellence than usual, and contains many new features and matters of interest. Aniongot these may be mentioned a street, directory of New Plymouth.-Wanganui.and Pahnerston N., a very complete summary of the statistics of New Zealand, corrected up to a recent date ; the amendments lately made in the Customs Tariff ; and a synopsis of last session's legislation. The other parts of the work have been re-written and revised, and everything made up to date as possible. We congratulate the publishers on having so successfully produced their thirteenth edition of this valuable compendium of useful information, which should find a .place in every settler's home on this coast. (Wanganui Herald.) It is well got up and carefully compiled. (Taranaki Herald.) The Star Almanack for 1896 is to hand, and as usual is a most creditable production. The volume is fully up to former years, and in some respects an improvement is noticeable. Among the new features are street directories of New Plymouth, Wanganui, and Palmerstm North. (Feilding Star.) It is well got up and carefully compiled. (Taranaki News.) It is neatly printed, and the compilation has been carefully attentled to. It is a credit to the district, and its popularity is rapidly increasing. (Egmont Post.) Reflects credit on the publishing firm of Messrs Innes and Company, Hawera. (Patea Press.) We have to acknowledge the receipt of a copy of the Hawera Stab Almanack for current year, and find it as usual' full from cover to cover of useful everyday information, and should find a place hi every household on the coast, and we venture to think there will be no better shilling's worth to be fouud. Notwithstanding the fact that several portions of the book were destroyed in the fire, the volume was completed and ready for delivery to purchasers sharp up to time. It is turned out in the Star's wellknown style and would be a credit to any offioe on the coast.
