Normanby Town Board.
The ordinary meeting of the Normanby Town Board was held in tbe Town Hall on Monday evening. Present — Commissioners Thompson (chairman), Sisley, Mathieson, Marsh, and Wales. Minutes of previouß ordinary meeting read and confirmed. Minutes of speoial meeting read and confirmed, and also of an adjourned meeting. OUTWARD CORRESPONDENCE. To Mr Chas. Paine intimating his appointment as ranger. To Stab, ordering 100 copies of the bylaws. To Mr Murphy re rates on hotel property remaining unpaid by the previous tenant. To Mr Tarrant, re fence erected on Butler-street. To Mr Patrick Chrystal, giving per* mission to shift fence. INWARD. { Prom Treasury, Wellington, enclosing £5 Oa 7d, being half the difference in tbe cost of election of Licensing Bench between last and previous years. From tbo Colonial Secretary, intimating that the above amount had been approved of. From Land and Income Tax Department re subsidy, and enclosing forms of declaration. From Mr C. Paine, re impounding cattle. — A considerable discuseion ensued re the legality of licensing cattle to rnn on the township. Besolved, Tbat Mr Paine proceed in impounding cattle according co tbe inBtraotion given him in the first ioßtanoe, and that an intimation be sent to Mr Paine that tbe Board will protect him from any action taken against him arising from the oarrying out cf those instrnotione. (Thompson—- Sißley.) Eeeolved, Tbat Mr Paine, the ranger, proceed against any person committing a breach of the by-law recently made re driving cattle through tbe streets of the township. Mr Baine waited on tbe Board from the School Committee re crossing of Vogel street. The Board recognised the necessity of work being done, and bad already inspected it, but did not tbink anything oould be done daring the present iaolement weather, but farther on some metal shonld be put down. Mr Paine obtained permission of tbe Board to place culvert across footpath in Grey street, opposite school . Mr Thompson brought before the board the state ot the street near Miss Hill's residence. It transpired that the foreman of works had already reported on the matter, and tbat bis opinion was that nothing oould be done until finer weather, when it would be advisable to form Bobson street to Ohangai road. Besolved, That the clerk write (0 tbe Connty Council asking permission for the ranger to pound Btock on county roads within a radius of one mile around the township, and that tbe clerk state tbe reasons for tbe application. Besolved, That the clerk write to the Premier applying for a policeman, and that the letter be forwarded through Mr Hutchison. Besolved, That trees bo procured to take the plaoe of the willows dow planted on railway reserve, and also of any dead trees on same reserve ; the willows to be shifted to Waibi on Arbor Day.
