All the existing licenses were renewed at the annual meeting of tbe Palmerstoo Licensing Court to-day witb the exception of the Albion and Star hotels' licenses, wbioh were adjourned for one week, tbe poliop report being uusatipfaotory.

The City Licensing Bench refused all applications for extensions beyond 10 o'olook.
NAPIER, Jane 8.
At the meeting of the Licensing Court to-day strong opposition wrs manifested to the renewal of the license of the Provinoial Hotel to P. Gleeson on aooonnt of recent events, which had become publio property.,- A largely-signed petition against tne renewal was put in. and the police aleo opposed; Alter evidence and argument, lasting the whole of the after* neon, the committee by six votes to two decided to renew tbe license, but refused costs to Gleeson.

CHRISTOHURCH, June 3. The annual meeting of the Licensing Comntittee foF'Cbyetohurob district took plaoe to-day. "- "• * Applications for renewal of licenses in respect of several hotels against whioh Informations for Sunday trading have been laid by Prohibitionists, were adjourned till after these charges had Jbeen heard in the Magistrate's Conrt here, viz.,Jßurke'B, Prinod of Wales, Eastern, Tattersall, White (P Horse), Caver sham, Royal, New Zealander, White Swan, Zetland Arms Hotels.
Upon the application of T. Popbam for renewal of the license of Ooker's Hotel beiqg.calledr a -petition, signed among others by Bißhop Julius* Revs. F. Enowles, W. Morley, J4J 4 Elmslie, H. R. Dewsbnry, A. W. Averill. J. Dawson, A. Mitchell, F. W. Isitt, J. Hooking, and Orohard, and Brigadier Hoiking and two oaptaioa and a lieutenant: of tbe Salvation Army, was read. It made certain allegations with regard to the conduct of one of the bars, and the application was postponed till Jane 24tb» wben \t was agreed that tbe evidence ;n regard to the petition eboultfti? heart. : A letter was read frpm the Prohibition League stating that there were few, if any, houses in the distriot whioh did not possess two or more bars, whereas the Aot con* templated tbe licensing of one only. The Chairman said the committee bad nothing to do witb tbe question. Tbe committee issued a license for one bar to each house, and if tbere were more within tbe meaning of the Aot it was for the police to take action. Inspector Broham said the matter was one whioh had been greatly discussed. He had himself when in Auckland' taken the initiative, and laid informations nnder the Aot, bat they were dismissed, and tbe same thing had been tbe case in other localities. He was of opinion after carefully looking into the matter that there were no breaches of this section of tbe Aot in Cbristohoroh. If any person thought there was a breach of tbe Act it quite open for him to lay an information.
