ELTHAM.

(FBOM OUB O.WN COBBESPONDENT.I In your last weekly issue you suggest that our Ngaire friends have made a record for price in Taranaki obeese. I should like to point oat that Eltbam has also as good a i.*eoord for the season. It will perhaps be borne in mind that the s.s. Duke of Westminster's shipment (which arriyedJHome late and also bad an accident with her refrigerator) brought 57s and 58s, Eltbam having 40 tons on board. Whilst lam on the subject I may cay that the Eltbam Co-operative Society has had a very successful season, and are building extensive additions to the premises. This venture bas been a very happy one and advocates of co-operation can point it' out as an example to further their cause. Eltbam is to be favoured with a visit from Mr G. Hutchison, M.H.8., who, I understand, is to take tbe chair at a concert in aid of the Primitive Methodist Church building funds shortly. I believe Mr Hutobison intends doing a- little speaking during bis trip, and I have no doubt be will tell us something about his bill, wniob, if passed, will confer a boon on such townships as Eltbam. In connection with tbe concert above mentioned the genial secretary, Mr T, Foot, informs me that he bas secured most of tbe leading talent in tbe district* and as tbe object is a very worthy one it is expeoted the ball will be well filled. "Wonders will never cease." At last somethiDg is to be done to tbe footpaths in Eltham, and I believe operations are to be commenced Bbortly to bave almost the whole of the township kerbed. Blacking has almost been at & discount here lately, .as people hpve long since failed to see the necessity of cleaning boots. Mr O. Wilkinson's new premises are being pushed ahead, and will, when com* pleted, be the largest in the town. Our pojtv office - offioials, owing to tbe , ever increasing business of tbe place, have almost r/»ore'w6rk than they can. manage, and for>the convenience of tbe .public need further aid. It will be well if Mi 'Hutchison looks into these matters during bis visit.-— July 5. ■ *
