THE VICTORIAN LOAN.
(per press association.)
MELBOUENE, September 26.
The Government express pleasure at the result of the loan, and think it must have offered relief to trade in the colony.
LONDON, September 26.
It is stated that tbe Hon. Downes Carter, Colonial Treasurer of the colony, desired that the minimum should be fixed at 98, but, yielding to pressure, consented to 96.
The Standard alleges that the amount of loan was taken up by a syndicate before the publio, or those holding stock, maturing, had a chance to subsoribe, and declares the action of the agents will not inspire confidence in future loans. Other newspapers contain similar objections.
