In taking a dog away from a pig, tbe latter turned and tore his hand ; and he had to go to Eltham for medical treatment. He will be unable to work] for three weeks or a month. ! Mr Major, J.P., has been appointed Coroner for the district. Having had long experience as a Justice of the Peace, and havimr for aeveral gears past aqted as coroner, Mr Major should be a% fait with Jthe_du.tiea of his office, and make a very good coroner. Dr. Macgregor, reporting on the Wanoanui hospital scandal, states:—l found that tbe nurse, whose conduct is in question, bad been guilty of impropriety with one of the male patients, a Mr Blank, and bad consequently neglected her duty, and also that tbe authorities had leaned too much to mercy's side in judging her conduct. This has arisen out of evidence Riven in the case Crowther v. E&aon, beard at R.M, Court, Hawera, a fortnight ago. There is (says the Wellington PoBt) a rnrnour current to which we are loth to give and credence, altbongh we feel bound to mention it. The story rune that an intrigue is being carried on to oust Mr Seddon from the Premiership and leadership of the Liberal Pnrty in favor of Sir Robert Stout, Mr Seddon being compensated by appointment as Cbief Commissioner of Railways for five years, at a salary of £1000 a-year. Such an arrangement would bo utterly discreditable to all parties concerned. A meeting of the Institute Committee was held on Tuesday evening, when it was deoided to send Home for another £20 or £25 worth of books. The question of enlargement of the institute engaged the attention of tbe committee, and a plan was considered under wbicb, by removing the building to the side of tbe section, a valuable building site might be obtained for letting; It was that the rent which the section would readily fatch would be 'sufficient to provide interest and sinking fund for a sum of money which would provide additional accommodation for the insfitdte, and also large room for museum. The matter is to be brought under the attention of the Borough Council.
