LABOR TROUBLES.
(PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.) LONDON. May 4. Mr Gladstone supported the second reading of the Miners' Eight Hours BiU on the ground that be believed tbe majority of tbe miners were in favor of tbe Bill, though be admitted he was averse to interfering with adult labor. He reserved tbe right of action upon the third reading, as he was opposed to making the Bill compulsory. Tbe Irish members unanimously supported the measure, and ao did most of the Ministers. Messrs John Morley, Burt, MoArtbur, Fenwick, J. Wilon, and 30 other d-Jad-fltoniant voted against it, There was considerable mixing up of partjen in the division. Mr Aeqnitb, the Home Secretary, has again refused to withdraw tbe troops and bluejackets from Hull. He contends that they are doing good service in assisting to maintain order in tbe town. Tbe National Conference of Miners is diflonssing the proposal for a general strike of miners in order to. lessen the output and prevent a reduction in the rates.

The Bristol dookers have struck as a protest against the employment of non« unionists. The pickets posted by the unionists at Hull seised a number of free laborers, but tbey were released by the police. Tbe Dundee strikes are settled, a reduotion of two and a half per cent being accepted. PARIS. May 5. Tbe Chamber of Deputies is discussing a bill which provides for the imposition of a tax on foreign workmen.
