SOHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.
OPUNAKE,
Considerable^ interest was taken at the annual election ot a sohool committee. There was a large attendance of householders. Mr H. E. Gapper~wa3 voted to the chair. The balance sheet for tbe past year was read and adopted by the meeting. Tne followng committee were oleoted for tbe ensuing year:— Messrs 0. J. Middleton, A. 0. Cross, H. E. Gapper, D. MoSweeney, G, McHardy, J. Gay, and B. H. Seccombe.
I Mr A. H. Moore moved, That , this meeting taking into consideration the prejudicial effect caused by tbe low rate of teaoher6* salaries ruling in Taranaki district, and considering the teachers are under the same departments, urge that tbe salaries of teaohers should be regular throughout the colony, and that tbe chairman of meeting forward a copy of resolution tp the Minister of Education and the' chairman of Education Board. Seconded 1 by Mr S. Prosser, and carried.
Moved by Mr Moore, That this meeting considers that a farther disqualification be added to the School Committees Eleotion Act to disqualify the parent of teacher whilst such teacher js in school where the parent would be qualified to sit as a committeeman ; and copy be forwarded as previous resolution. Seconded by Mr Seccombe, and carried. Vote of thanks to tbe chairman closed the meeting. The new committee met immediately after the public meeting, when Mr H. E. Gapper was elected chairman for the year.
