Normanby Horticultural Society
(FROM OUR OWN COEBSSPONDENT.) A meeting of the Committee of tbe Horticultural Sooiety was held on Siitor. day evening. Present— Messrs J. Btst, G. Paine, P. Innes, A. R. Walker, Epping, Rogers, Barke, Mathieson, Robsoo, Rowe, Lloyd, Forbes. Mr Paine was voted to tbe cbair.
AN EXPLANATION.
Previous to the confirmation of thf minutes of the previous meeting, Vx Burke said he did noc think of it at thi time, but bad thought so since, that the motion carried at last meeting — " that the secretary ehould forward the minutes of the meeting to the Stab "—pat a slight on the Stab correspondent, who, at the time ot the meeting, was engaged in the next room, rehearsing a piece to he played for the benefit of the society, aid he -did not think he said "yes" to Ufa motion that the minutes of the malting conld have been procured from the Secretary. Members generally disclaimed any such intention, recognising that the Stab correspondent was one of the best workers.
CORRESPONDENCE.
l From F. Goodacre, aeceptiog tbe OjOSee of judge of poultry and birds, providing tbe society would allow him 10a for-tbe day (his usual charge for judging, being j£B 3b)', and hoped the committee would meet him that far ; also, that if he had, not accepted tbe judgesbip he would bare exhibited twelve lots of fowls, and would now enter them for exhibition only. JEf pigeons were allowed to be exhibited he could bring down several lots withinm. — R3Bolved, That Mr Goodacre's offer, to judge poultry at tbe show be accepted. — Be exhibition of pigeons,, it was decided that tbe matter be left in the bands of tbe secretary to write about.
From secretary of Hawera Band, regretting not having answered letter be* fore re tender of band to play on enow ground. From Railway Department, stating that the department was unable to comply with request re trains, bat that a train would be arranged for to run from ftew Plymouth to Hawera and back; also a -train from Hawera to Normanby as requested.— Tbe secretary is to write to the Railway Department, stating that a train from New Plymouth would bring down a large number of exhibits, and asking to have it arrive at Normanby not later than 10 a.m. (P. Innes— Best.) From Mrs Ross, accepting office as judge ; also, from Mr Jas. Wright accept*
Wg. r. From secretary of New Plymouth Poultry Association, stating that tbe society could have 50 fowl pens.
GENERAL ARRANGEMENTS.
Resolved, That the refreshment booth and fruit stall be offered to Mrs Eagles for the 1 sum of £4. (Rogers— Barke.) Resolved, That Mr Wbittaker and the Hawera Caledonian Society be asked to lend flags.
A committee was appointed to arrange for decorating tbe hall and another to dear hall ready for tbe entertainment in. the evening. Resolved, That tbe secretary write to tbe several school committees, asking them to grant a holiday on the day of the show. l
Mr. fiowe informed the meeting ibtt Mr. John Soott would act «s judge in the Potato Competition. Resolved, That Mr. InksUr be *&+i\ to judge grain and grass seed.
