EGMONT FARMERS' UNION (Ltd.) REPORT.

Hawera, February 9.

We had a lively sale at Stratford on Friday, the 3rd inst. The yards were well filled with cattle, most of them being young stock. There was a fair attendance and brisk bidding, so that nearly everything was sold under the hammer, the following being the prices realised :— 2 to 2£year steers £3 8s 6d to £4> 7s 6d, 12 to 18months steers 42s to 555, weaners 27s to 35s 6d, fat cows £3 15s to M ss, milkers jB3 6s to £5, 18-months to 2-year heifers £2 18s to £d, 12 to 18-months heifers 47s 6d to 655.

Our fortnightly stock sale in the Glover road yards was a great success, despite the unfavorable weather and the absence of a good many farmers at the Wanganni Ram Fair. The entry of both cattle and sheep was large, somewhat exceeding what was advertised, and the quality of the cattle was superior, a good many fat and forward bullocks being comprised amongst the numbers. Though the attendance was smaller than usual, the sale went off very well, as those present had evidently come there prepared to buy, so with scarcely any •xception every line of cattle changed hands, though we experienced a dull sale for sheep, particularly aged ewes, and several lines were passed in, not reaching reserves. We quote: fat and forwam bullocks M 13s 6d to .£6 2s, 2 to 2£-year steers £3 lls to M ss, 12 to 18-months steers £2, 7s to £3 4s, fat cows M 5s to £A 10s. Sheep — Ewes and lambs 9s, 4-tooth woolly ewes lls, woolly lambs 4s 9d.
