A terrible sequel to the lynching expedition is reported from Bakersville, the C»pit»l of Mitchell connty, in North Oiiolinai A prisoner confined in tbe local gaol W«B dragged from his cell by an infariated crowd and hurried to a forest on tbe outskirts of the town where the unfortunate wretch waß lynched. The mob was followed by seven policemen, who engaged thelynchers and a furious fight ensued 1 , resulting in the death of the whole .of the police ana 25 of tbe lawbreakers. Among tbe latter were many of the, most prominent men in the country.
