JAY GOULD'S FUNERAL.
(Mail Telegram.) The great railroad speculator and multi. millionaire, Jay Gould, died at his reii. dence in New York on Friday morning. December 2nd. He bad been declining m health for more than a year p«st. <Hia death bad but little perceptible effect on the money market or any railway .securities of the country. His funeral, which was a serai-public one, took plaoe on Dec. 3rd. Nona of tbe family or relatives were present. Those who came to see the dead man were not' in sympathy nor touch with him during bis life, and were merely attracted by a spirit of curiosity. Tbew was no sorrow at his bier, but a cold sense of satisfaction seemed to pervade every quarter with, the fact that he w»s dead. Suoh a cold and heartless funeral has seldom been Been in New "York. 'BGi estate is estimated at 100,000,000 dolltki. By his will none of his vast wealth* gotev outside his family. There is not Jr dollar Jeft for any charitable Iteose whatever. Tbe children are Riven the bulk of the great fortune share and ihan I alike, to control it themselves. The eldest son, George J. Gould, is placed at the hepd of the syndicate, and, as the will states, haying developed remarkable business ability and having for th'epaet five years taken entire charge of all his father's difilcult interests, be- is 'given 5,000,000 dollars by tbe testator for fail services. Some relatives outside tb* immediate homo oirole are moderatefr remembered. The publication of the will caused little comment. It was pot ex* pected tbat Gould would leave anything outside bis own family, and nobody was disappointed. After Gould's death there was a disposition to think he had been harshly dealt with, and people were gene* rally inclined to give him the benefit ofA | many doubts, but his will caused a general^ revulsion.
